About the job
The accountant is responsible for performing and overseeing a wide range of accounting activities to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information. This position supports daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, reconciliations, financial reporting, and month‑end close activities. With five years of professional experience, the accountant applies advanced knowledge of accounting principles, strong analytical skills, and excellent attention to detail to maintain compliance with internal controls and regulatory standards.
This role serves as a key partner to cross‑functional teams by providing financial insights, supporting audits, and ensuring clear and effective communication in both English and Spanish. The accountant contributes to process improvements, enhances efficiency in financial workflows, and supports the organization’s financial health and operational excellence.
Your tasks
- Contribute to management recommendations by providing financial insight and analysis to support the development of corporate economic strategies, objectives, and policies.
- Prepare high‑quality financial reports that summarize and forecast business activity, financial performance, income, expenses, and earnings based on historical trends, current results, and projected operations.
- Support the budgeting process by collecting, analyzing, and validating financial data, preparing supporting documentation, and assisting with budget presentations.
- Lead and execute the month‑end closing process, including performing account reconciliations, preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling bank statements, and maintaining accurate accounting estimates.
- Maintain and oversee fixed asset records, ensuring proper capitalization, depreciation, reconciliation, and asset transfers in compliance with company policies.
- Review general ledger coding and cost allocations on invoices to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to accounting standards.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management to support strategic planning and operational decision‑making.
- Manage intercompany transactions and invoicing, ensuring accuracy, proper documentation, and reconciliation between entities.
- Support special accounting projects and process improvement initiatives, providing analytical support and implementing best practices.
- Maintain reliable and consistent attendance to ensure continuity of financial operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success and efficiency of the accounting function.
Requirements
Technical Knowledge:
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or progress toward certification is desirable but not required.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or multi‑entity environment.
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Month‑end close
- Financial reporting
- General ledger management
- Fixed asset accounting
- AP/AR processes
- Intercompany transactions
- Experience supporting internal or external audits.
- Experience working with ERP/accounting software and bilingual financial documentation.
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP): Strong understanding of GAAP standards and their application to daily accounting operations, financial reporting, and month‑end close.
- Financial Reporting: Knowledge of preparing and analyzing financial statements, budget reports, variance analysis, and management reporting packages.
- General Ledger Accounting: Expertise in journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and maintenance of accurate ledgers.
- Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable: Strong understanding of invoice processing, vendor management, collections, credit memos, and payment cycles.
- Fixed Assets Management: Knowledge of capitalization rules, depreciation methods, asset transfers, and reconciliation procedures.
- Month‑End and Year‑End Close: Experience managing closing calendars, preparation of schedules, and supporting audit requirements.
- Bank Reconciliations: Ability to perform, analyze, and resolve discrepancies in bank statements and cash accounts.
- Tax Basics: Familiarity with sales tax, use tax, payroll tax, and documentation support for external tax filings.
- ERP & Accounting Systems: Proficient in major accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar platforms) and reporting tools.
- Internal Controls: Understanding of SOX principles, segregation of duties, financial controls, and audit documentation.
Skills:
- Bilingual Communication (English/Spanish): Ability to prepare reports, explain financial concepts, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders in both languages.
- Analytical and Problem‑Solving Skills: Strong ability to interpret financial data, identify discrepancies, and recommend corrective actions.
- Detail‑Oriented: High level of accuracy in financial documentation, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities during peak periods (e.g., month‑end close).
- Advanced Excel Skills: Proficiency in VLOOKUP, pivot tables, filters, formulas, and data analysis tools.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage documentation, maintain structured accounting files, and support audit trails.
- Team Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work with Finance, HR, Operations, Procurement, and external auditors.
- Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive and financial data securely and professionally.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment with evolving processes, system changes, and business priorities.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Additional coursework or certification in financial reporting, tax, or auditing is a plus.
