About the job
Compliance Engineer is responsible for managing all of the product compliance activity and relationships. This position serves as the technical interface with regulatory agencies such as UL, NSF, ETL, Ansul, etc. Provides direct guidance and support to Engineering to ensure that equipment is in compliance with local and federal standards. Communicates with regulatory agencies for product listings, re-certifications, or field inspector inquires. Assists with third party regulatory audits (UL, NSF, ETL, etc.)
Your tasks
- Works directly with Regulatory agencies to ensure new or redesigned products are in compliance with local and federal standards.
- Proactively reviews products with Engineering to confirm compliance with Standards and ensure correct and timely certifications of new/redesigned equipment.
- Is responsible for initiating projects with respective agencies – developing project submittal packages to include the following: scope of project, drawings, supporting documents, BOMs, etc.
- Coordinate and track projects – providing regularly status updates to all necessary departments and document the progress.
- Schedules internal / external testing with agencies based on Franke Engineering lab availability and timelines.
- Ensure continuous compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation/standards; enforcing adherence to requirements.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and up-to-date internal and external regulatory documentation/certifications for third party auditors/inspectors or customers.
- Manage testing of product in house or with third party testing agency laboratories.
- Manage third party audits within the facility.
- Assist with in house regulatory testing by defining required test plans and confirming results for certification.
- Represents department in industry and trade associations and standards making committees Reliable attendance a must.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Educación & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field required).
- 5–7 years of experience in product compliance, regulatory engineering, certification processes, or related technical roles.
- Experience working with regulatory agencies such as UL, NSF, ETL, Ansul, or similar bodies.
- Strong background in interpreting and applying local, national, and international compliance standards (e.g., UL standards, NSF sanitation requirements, electrical safety codes, environmental regulations).
- Prior experience supporting third‑party regulatory audits and maintaining product listings or certifications.
Technical Knowledge
- In‑depth understanding of compliance testing protocols, certification processes, and regulatory documentation.
- Working knowledge of product safety standards, materials compliance, and performance testing requirements.
- Ability to analyze engineering designs and documentation to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
- Familiarity with compliance investigation, field inspector inquiries, and certification renewal procedures.
- Strong capability to serve as a technical liaison with regulatory agencies and internal engineering teams.
Skill
- Excellent communication skills for interaction with regulatory agencies, engineering teams, and cross‑functional partners.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities to interpret standards and determine compliance impacts on product design.
- Ability to manage multiple certification projects simultaneously, ensuring all deadlines and regulatory timelines are met.
- High attention to detail in documentation, testing records, and regulatory submissions.
- Strong project‑management skills, including tracking, reporting, and coordinating compliance activities across departments.
Addicional Requeriments
- Ability to represent the company professionally in interactions with UL, NSF, ETL, Ansul, and other regulatory authorities.
- Ability to support engineering teams with direct guidance on compliance requirements during product development.
- Willingness to participate in on‑site audits, factory inspections, and compliance verifications.
- Reliable attendance is essential.
