About the job
The Engineering Trainee will provide support on a specific Manufacturing Engineering project focused on the documentation, analysis, and improvement of production processes within the metal-mechanical industry, particularly in laser cutting and bending operations. The role will also involve exposure to and participation in Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Die) activities aimed at reducing changeover times and improving process efficiency. The position requires a prior technical foundation, a minimum availability of 12 months to remain at Franke as a Trainee, and strong communication skills that enable effective interaction in a plant environment.
Your tasks
- Support the development of the assigned engineering project, focused on the improvement, standardization, and optimization of manufacturing processes.
- Prepare, update, and control technical documentation such as SOPs, JSIs, visual aids, and process flow diagrams.
- Conduct shop-floor process assessments, including direct observation of laser cutting and bending operations.
- Perform cycle time measurements, work studies, and basic capacity analyses under supervision.
- Collect, clean, and analyze process data (scrap, efficiency, downtime, rework).
- Use dimensional measuring instruments for process validation and verification.
- Support the creation, review, and updating of technical drawings and layouts using CAD tools.
- Actively collaborate with Production, Quality, Safety, and Engineering teams, maintaining clear and effective communication.
- Report project progress, analyses, and results to the responsible engineer.
Requirements
- Active student, Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering,Mechatronics Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge and application of time measurement, work studies, and method analysis.
- Ability to analyze data and manage basic performance indicators.
- Proficiency in the use of measuring instruments (vernier caliper, micrometer, square, angle gauge, tape measure).
- Basic to intermediate proficiency in AutoCAD for drawing interpretation and editing.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and tracking.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with both operational and administrative personnel.
- Good organizational skills, analytical thinking, sense of responsibility, and results-oriented mindset.
- Proactive attitude and willingness to learn on the production floor.
- Minimum availability of 12 months to remain at Franke as a Trainee program.
- Previous experience preferred in the manufacturing process.
- Desired English level: Intermediate (technical reading and comprehension).
